We work across many sectors within the transportation industry providing a complete package of applications and services, adding significant value to Digital Twin and Smart Cities strategies.
Signing and Lining
Comprehensive range of software for designing, managing and recording signs and lines
Pressure on the UK’s road network is greater than ever before as we look to a future that includes an ever widening range of competing road uses. Against this background, the digital tools for planning and safety are more sophisticated and aid the design and management of safe and efficient road ecosystems that are fit for the future. The aim for many is to ultimately reach Vision Zero – a scenario where all road accidents and fatalities have been eliminated. To begin progress towards this, highways and police authorities need access to an accessible and reliable database that provides real time information on collisions and injuries as well as the ability to map statistics and trends.
How we help
Our AccsMap application has been developed specifically to meet the needs of UK highways authorities and the police for a map-centred collision database and enquiry system. It makes the complex three-tier structure of STATS19 data (accidents, vehicles and casualties) simple, allowing queries to be made at any level. This means that local authorities can improve their ability to respond to safety concerns using a reliable database that provides easily accessible information on individual collisions and injuries as well as overall trends. In addition, our CollisionMap is a unique mapping device that uses the latest DfT collision data to provide accurate and detailed statistics on accidents, collisions and fatality sites across the UK. Data can be adjusted using various parameters so that users can compare the figures more accurately between areas as well as the national average.
Local Authorities’ income, reputation, road safety, and the good management of scarce street space, all depend upon having enforceable controls. Managing this requires a comprehensive record of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) or Traffic Management Orders (TMOs) and the signs and markings that communicate them to road users. Precise digital records of traffic orders, signs and lines can contribute significantly to the efficiency of local transport networks, helping them to operate smoothly, efficiently and safely and contributing to targets for decarbonisation and reduced emissions.
How we help
Our ParkMap cloud mapping service is a byword for best practice across UK local authorities for mapping on street parking controls. It gives transport planners real time access to precise digital records of traffic orders, signs and lines, providing them with an accurate digital twin of what is happening at street level. This saves countless hours of time and contributes significantly to the safe and efficient running of the transport network. ParkMap also allows for the creation of the services needed for future road ecosystems to enable driverless cars to navigate the UK’s complex roadside restrictions. We also offer expert consultancy services in order-making, survey and data services as part of our consultancy arm Buchanan Order Management.
Signing and Lining
The importance of the correct signs and markings to the safety and usability of the road network cannot be overstated, yet many organisations admit that their signs, lines and associated inventory records are not well maintained. Accurate sign design is key to providing the correct information for Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) in the push towards safer roads and automated driving technology.
How we help
Our propriety software includes SignPlot which is the most intelligent system for traffic sign design. Joining it is LineMap which is used for road markings. Both systems incorporate the complex spacing and layout rules of the Department for Transport’s Traffic Signs, Regulation and General Directions (TSRGD) and relevant chapters of the Traffic Signs Manual, and apply them automatically. This makes them productive and easy to learn, and it eliminates many potential sources of error and unnecessary expense. As well as linking with our other systems, these tools integrate easily into any Computer Aided Design (CAD), Geographic Information System (GIS) or Building Information Modelling (BIM) environment.
Deliver Your Wider Service Objectives
We work with our Clients, Partners and Stakeholders to enable the sharing of high quality data via our cloud based API services which can then be used to deliver wider services including:
- Stakeholders and Partners can build comprehensive management level reports.
- Traffic and highway engineers can access a wide variety of tools for scheme design, traffic sign design, road marking design and Bills of Quantity.
- Members of the public can obtain direct and transparent access to traffic scheme information.
- For enforcement and appeals, the system provides access to historic information, legal documentation and tools for the reliable production of information for use in appeals.
