Speeding blackspot initiatives
AccsMap has changed things in the North Yorkshire Police area.
Dealing with complaints about speeding vehicles and potential accident hotspots takes up a high percentage of time in many Police Traffic Management Units. AccsMap has changed things in the North Yorkshire Police area, as they now have historical collision data going back ten years for the whole of their area of jurisdiction, readily available on three mobile workstations.
“When a member of the public contacts me with a complaint, I can call up the area and see immediately from the mapped crash data if there is an existing safety problem,” explained North Yorkshire’s PC Martin Hemenway. As he also uses the system to record the number of complaints received, and to flag up areas for enforcement action, it means that targeting dangerous sites, deciding on an appropriate course of action, and implementing it, is now more effective.
“As York City Council and North Yorkshire County Councils both use the AccsMap system also, it means we are working more productively together to reduce casualties throughout North Yorkshire.”
